Hypnosis happens when the very active parts of our mind becomes calmed and open to the power of suggestion. Normally this part of our mind is the part that is active reacting to our senses and being aware of all that is going on around us. It is also the part of our mind that we use to consider situations and come to decisions on what actions to take.
In many situation we act as though in an altered state, or a state hypnosis. Let’s look at a situation we are all familiar with, riding a bike. Remember the many times we wanted to learn to ride a bike, the many failed attempts. Then someday, with a parent, or a brother or sister, or a friend we finally succeeded in making a dash for a few yards in a somewhat degree of control. And eureka we had cracked it.
It takes many more hours of cycling before we become fully competent. We need focus, concentration, balance, control of pedals and breaks. We get to learn what distance we need to stop at different speeds taking hills and surface-conditions into account. Eventually we are able to cycle even without our hands on the handle bars. When we become this expert we are functioning in an altered state compared to the shaky nervy time when it took all of our wits to stay upright for 2 seconds.
